Brussels Marathon

The Brussels' Marathon is carried out every year in October. The Marathon is Belgium's biggest running event which attracts thousands athletes from Belgium as well as from all over the world. The course is particularly amazing with interesting views. It starts in Parc du Cinquantenaire / Jubelpark, and continues through the beautiful streets of the city. The course ends in the Grand Place / Grote Markt, one of the Brussels' most beautiful and famous square.

background and overview:

Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830; it was occupied by Germany during World Wars I and II. It has prospered in the past half century as a modern, technologically advanced European state and member of NATO and the EU. Tensions between the Dutch-speaking Flemings of the north and the French-speaking Walloons of the south have led in recent years to constitutional amendments granting these regions formal recognition and autonomy.
