London's New Year's Day Parade is known as one of the most beautiful New Year parades over the world. This is an international parade that last for three hours with more than ten thousands participants representing more than twenty countries. The visitors can enjoy watching giant dolls, dancers, acrobats, clowns, wind instruments bands, etc...
The parade is held on January 1st. It starts in Parliament Square and proceeds along Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, Cockspur St, Pall Mall, Lower Regent St, Piccadilly Circus and Piccadilly, up to the junction with Berkeley Street. More than 500,000 spectators stand along it course and enjoy its' beauty.

background and overview:
Great Britain, the dominant industrial and maritime power of the 19th century, played a leading role in developing parliamentary democracy and in advancing literature and science. At its zenith, the British Empire stretched over one-fourth of the earth's surface.
The first half of the 20th century saw the UK's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars. The second half witnessed the dismantling of the Empire and the UK rebuilding itself into a modern and prosperous European nation. The Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, and the Northern Ireland Assembly were established in 1999, but the latter is suspended due to wrangling over the peace process.
