A Celebration of Greek Culture in the Heart of Melbourne
The Antipodes Festival in Melbourne is way more than just another street party – it’s a quick trip to Greece without leaving Aus! Every year, Melbourne’s vibrant Greek community takes over Lonsdale Street in the CBD, transforming it into a sensory feast of authentic colours, sounds, and flavours.
For a whole weekend, festival-goers soak up a proper carnival atmosphere. Expect live gigs from local talent and international acts flying in straight from Greece, plus traditional dancing that gets the whole crowd cheering (get ready to join in on a massive Zorba dance!). There are over 100 market stalls set up, showcasing handmade crafts, jewellery, and local art.
But the real drawcard is undoubtedly the food: the street fills with the mouth-watering aromas of sizzling souvlaki, juicy gyros, and honey-drenched loukoumades (Greek doughnuts), alongside special stages hosting live cooking demos by top-notch chefs.
Entry is completely free and it’s a cracking day out for the whole family, featuring kids’ amusement rides and open-air bars for the adults. It’s the perfect excuse to experience the magic of “Little Greece” and enjoy an unforgettable weekend of culture, community, and brilliant food.
More details about the festival can be found on the official website. Please refer to the ‘Event Related Information’ section for additional information.
