The end point of the famous Tour de France bicycle competition is located in Place Masséna, Nice .

On the last day of the three weeks competition, thousands of people stand along the route applaud to the coming riders.

Although ultimately a victor in World Wars I and II, France suffered extensive losses in its empire, wealth, manpower, and rank as a dominant nation-state.
