The city Sanlúcar de Barrameda is located in Cadiz region in south west Spain to the seashore of the Atlantic Ocean. The city holds, once a year, one of the oldest horse races in Europe starting in 1845. The race preserves an ancient tradition about fish merchants who, everyday, rode with their merchandises, to the market in an unofficial contest.
Who will be the first to reach the market and start selling its fishes.
The contests are held in two rounds of three days each, in the low-tide of the afternoon hours.
In addition to the races, Sanlúcar celebrates the holiday of the city patron in dance, singing and exhibition of marvelous flower rug which is made especially for the fiestas in the city center.
