Co-founded in 1996 by Bob Charter and curator Al Ward, the Blue Mountains Music Festival has grown from a single-venue event at The Clarendon into a weekend-long celebration of folk, roots, and blues, drawing Australian and international artists to the mountain town of Katoomba.

Held annually each March, the festival fills seven undercover venues clustered within a compact precinct of central Katoomba, with over a hundred performances packed into a single weekend and every venue no more than a minute’s walk from the next.

Festival Highlights:

• Seven Stages, One Precinct: From the intimate Kitchen Garden stage to the Big Top, venues include Katoomba Public School, the Katoomba RSL, and the historic Palais Royale, all within easy walking distance of each other.

• Best Way to Get Around: The whole festival precinct is walkable, so once you’re in Katoomba there’s no need for a car to move between venues.
• Getting There: Katoomba is about 1.5–2 hours from Sydney by car via the Great Western Highway, or a direct train from Sydney’s Central Station — the train is worth considering given weekend road congestion and limited parking.
• What to Wear: The Blue Mountains stay cool even in March, so pack layers for moving between undercover venues and the streets in between.
