Tapis de fleurs de Bruxelles In 1971 the Belgian landscape architect, E. Stautemans, created the first unique flower carpet in Belgium. He paved the Grand Place square in Brussels with thousands flowers that created a splendid carpet.
Since then, biennially, in middle August the square which is surrounded by ancient buildings is covered with a giant flowers’ carpet.
Tens thousands of locals and tourists reach, during the four days of the exhibition, to watch the marvelous picture of the giant carpet which covers the whole great square.
Due to the numerous visitors during the festival days and the high demand for accommodations it is recommended to check hotel rates and book rooms well in advance.
The carpet is made of more than 700,000 Begonia flowers in various colors. It is amazing.
It is recommended to watch this breathtaking view from the heights of the town hall balcony (pay).
