The Canadian Tulip Festival

The Canadian Tulip Festival started in 1952, and since it is continually held in Ottawa the capital of Canada. Thousands of Tulip flowers are spread everywhere over the city during the festival that holds various kinds of culture events.

The festival has an historic background: During WWII the royal Dutch family escaped from Holland and found a shelter in Ottawa. When the queen, Juliana, returned to Holland in 1945, she decided to thank the Canadian people for hosting the royal family and sent Ottawa 100,000 Tulip tubers.

Like every year, hotel rooms are in high demand with surging prices during festival days. Therefore, it is highly recommended to book lodging accommodations ahead of time to enjoy preferable, better rates.

The festival’s information is present in the festival’s link website. See details below, under “Event Related Information” section.

  • Summer Holiday 2018

This would be a 65 Years celebration anniversary for me  to remember forever as am to be 65 on May 18, 2018. I am looking forward to this week of holiday in our beautiful capital of Ottawa.  I have been working for years as a nurse in Sudbury Ontario with no holiday. As I learned of the donation of bulbs from Holland’s queen Juliana in 1945, It profondly describe how our Canadian cultures portrays this beautiful land of ours and it’s residents, also the safe haven for so many people of the earth that included Queen Juliana and her family at one time in history. Because of her recognition of safety on our land, we today are fortune to enjoy such festival of natural colours of blooms that warms our hearts yet today.   I am planning a trip to Ottawa for this festival with pleasure and joy.   I will be seeing you in the spring.  Vivianne Leger
