On the days that the Chiang Mai flower festival takes place, the downtown streets are colored by the flowers that decorate every corner. The festival is celebrated, every year, for three days in start February. On this time, the tropical flowers that grow in the area, reach its climax bloom. On the three marvelous days of the festival, various events are held.

Due to the numerous visitors during the festival days and the high demand for accommodations it is recommended to check hotel rates and book rooms well in advance.

Events like; flower exhibitions, flower contests, colorful parade which is dedicated to flowers, beauty contests for choosing Miss Flower Bloom and Miss International Flower Bloom, food fair, entertainment and music shows, etc…

Thailand background and overview

  • Chiang mai flower festival.

    I was not aware of the Chiang Mai flower festival until I saw the stalls being set up on Thursday 1st February.  Traditionally this festival is always held on the first weekend of February to mark the end of the cool season when the flowers are at their best. It starts on the Friday and lasts for 3 days. At this time the “Miss Chiang Mai flower festival queen” is chosen and the climax of the show is the parade of floats on the Saturday morning. The roads around the moat are closed off as the parade proceeds to Suan Buak Haad city park where the main event and stalls are located. The parade takes several hours to pass and is a spectacle not to be missed. An important feature of the flower section is the Damask Rose which can only be found in Chiang Mai and are one of the most beautiful roses I have ever seen. The scent from them is delicious. If you are planning to be in Thailand at this time of year it is certainly something worth going out of your way to attend. So get off the beach and head up to Chiand Mai.  You won’t regret it. And while your there check out all the other attractions in “The Rose of the north” as Chiand Mai is also known as.
