Chonburi is the capital of the province with the same name. It is located about 100 km east of Bangkok, near Pattaya. The town holds, every year, a unique festival of riding water buffalos contests. The events are held usually a day before the full moon of October.
The great mammals are dressed with colored cloths and are decorated with bouquets of flowers. In addition to the riding contests, other events like contests of the most beautiful buffalo wear, parades and various culture events take place.
