Christmas Market in Dresden (Hefestriezel Weihnachtsmarkt) is known as the oldest market in Germany. Dresden is located in the center of East Germany. It started in 1,434 and since, it is held continuously during Advent. (In the Christian calendar, the first season of the church year, a period of preparation for the birth of Jesus. Advent begins on the Sunday nearest to November 30 and continues until Christmas).
The local Christmas market is also called Hefestriezel as the local traditional sweet. In addition to selling presents for the holiday, hand crafts and decoration for the Christmas tree the visitors can enjoy the holiday music that is heard all over the place. Dresden market, contrary to other markets in Germany, holds two festivals.
On the Christmas Market days accommodations can be fully booked hence it is recommended to make a room’s reservations in advance in order to find a room in a reasonable price.
On Saturday before the second Sunday of Advent, Stollen Festival takes place. Stollen is traditional bread which is eaten in Christmas. It was baked for the first time in 1450. The second festival which is called Pyramid Festival is held on Saturday before the third Sunday of Advent.
