Christmas market in Lübeck which is located in north Germany preserves an ancient tradition that started in 1648. Since then it is held, every year, from the second half of November until end December. The market is located on the Baroque old market square from the 16th century.

The gateway to the market is lightened with thousands colorful lamps so the ancient houses around the square is a marvelous decoration to the charmed market.

More than 400 wooden huts and stalls sell various handcrafts, presents and presents for the holiday side by side with hotdogs, hot chestnuts, candied almonds and apples, hot wine, Glühwein and punch that warm the heart and soul of the visitors in the cold winter nights.

On the Christmas Market days accommodations can be fully booked, hence it is recommended to make a room’s reservations in advance in order to find a room in a reasonable price.

In addition to the market the visitors can enjoy Christmas Fairy Tale Forest where 500 fir trees are lightened with colored lights beside the stalls that revitalize the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

All of the above are in addition to other activities in town like: St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s Church, Hospital of the holy spirit and in Niederegger Marzipan. All of these create a festive atmosphere, to the whole family, on the days prior the coming holiday.

Germany background and overview
As Europe's largest economy and second most populous nation, Germany remains a key member of the continent's economic, political, and defense organizations. European power struggles immersed Germany in two devastating World Wars in the first half of the 20th century and left the country occupied by the victorious Allied powers of the US, UK, France, and the Soviet Union in 1945. With the advent of the Cold War, two German states were formed in 1949: the western Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the eastern German Democratic Republic (GDR). The democratic FRG embedded itself in key Western economic and security organizations, the EC, which became the EU, and NATO, while the Communist GDR was on the front line of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact. The decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War allowed for German unification in 1990. Since then, Germany has expended considerable funds to bring Eastern productivity and wages up to Western standards. In January 1999, Germany and 10 other EU countries introduced a common European exchange currency, the euro.
