City2South Brisbane

City2South is a Brisbane fun run and charity fundraising event, born as a sister event to Sydney’s long-running City2Surf. Set in the Southbank area, it drew runners of every level, from elite athletes chasing a fast time to casual participants running for a cause, growing from a few thousand entrants in its first year to well over ten thousand.

The event took runners through some of Brisbane’s most scenic riverside terrain, taking in South Bank Parklands, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and stretches along the Brisbane River, with live bands, hydration stations, and a festival-like atmosphere for spectators along the route.

Fun Run Highlights:

  • Choice of Distances: A longer course for experienced runners and a shorter, beginner-friendly course meant the event welcomed everyone from newcomers to seasoned racers.
  • Scenic Riverside Course: The route wound past South Bank Parklands, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and along the Brisbane River, giving runners a scenic tour of the city.
  • Live Entertainment: Bands and performers stationed along the course kept energy high for both runners and spectators.
  • Charity Fundraising: Participants could run in support of local and national charities, adding a philanthropic focus to the event.

Tips for Visitors & Trip Planning:

  • Registration: Entry was via online registration, with distance and category selected at sign-up.
  • Course Layout: The Southbank-based course was easy to reach on foot or by public transport from central Brisbane.
  • Getting There: Brisbane’s CBD and South Bank precinct are well served by train, bus, and ferry, making the start/finish area easy to reach without a car.
  • What to Wear: Lightweight running gear and sun protection are recommended, given Brisbane’s warm, often humid climate.
  • Accommodation: Staying centrally near South Bank puts visitors close to the action, so booking well in advance is strongly recommended.
  • Explore Brisbane: Beyond the course, Brisbane offers riverfront walks, South Bank’s parklands and beaches, galleries, and day trips further afield — browse top Brisbane tours and activities here.
