The little town Prizzi is located 85 km south to Palermo in Sicily near Italy. The town holds, once a year, dance of the devil ceremonies. The event preserves ancient paganic traditions from the Middle Age – the constant struggle between good and bad. The events and ceremonies are held through the “Holly Week”, the week before Easter.

The main events are dance ceremonies were the town residents wear devils masks and dance in tempo that symbol evil. On Palm Sunday, in the afternoon, a rider on a horse arrives to the town gates. During the festival, accommodation may be scarce owing to higher demands , therefore it is advisable to check accommodation prices and make reservations ahead of time.

The rider symbols Jesus who reaches the place in order to bless and start the fiestas. The fiestas last for a week and combine various parades, impressive ceremonies and prayers. The fiestas reach its climax on Easter Sunday.

Italy background and overview
Italy became a nation-state in 1861 when the regional states of the peninsula, along with Sardinia and Sicily, were united under King Victor EMMANUEL II. An era of parliamentary government came to a close in the early 1920s when Benito MUSSOLINI established a Fascist dictatorship. His disastrous alliance with Nazi Germany led to Italy's defeat in World War II. A democratic republic replaced the monarchy in 1946 and economic revival followed. Italy was a charter member of NATO and the European Economic Community (EEC). It has been at the forefront of European economic and political unification, joining the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999. Persistent problems include illegal immigration, organized crime, corruption, high unemployment, sluggish economic growth, and the low incomes and technical standards of southern Italy compared with the prosperous north.
