Every year Mexico celebrates The Day of the Dead with ceremonies related to cemeteries and death. The ceremonies are not sad ones, in contrary; they are celebrations where the dead arise from the other worlds and come, once a year, to visit their living relatives.
The first day is dedicated to the young dead and the second day to the older ones. Lots of families spend the night near their relative’s graves that are covered with flowers. Thousands of people, local and tourists pour into town of Patzcuaro and the demand for accommodation is higher than usual, therefore it is advisable to check hotel prices and make reservations ahead of time.
They prepare festive meal with candle light that turns the graveyard into a colorful and happy place. The residents prepare various sweets in shapes that related to death like skeletons and skulls. The children wear scary disguises and in the evening the skies are full of fireworks.
The holiday is celebrated all over Mexico but the event in Patzcuaro is the most known event that attracts more and more visitors every year.
