Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Denver’s Irish community first paraded through the city as far back as 1889, but the modern Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee — a volunteer-run nonprofit — was founded in 1962 to revive and carry on the tradition. Today it holds the title of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade west of the Mississippi River, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to downtown Denver.
Held annually each March, the parade runs through Denver’s LoDo and Ballpark districts, passing near Union Station and Coors Field before finishing along Blake Street. With over 200 individual units and more than 10,000 participants, it’s one of the largest single-day gatherings on the city’s calendar.
Parade Highlights:
- Massive Scale: More than 200 individual units and over 10,000 participants make this the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade west of the Mississippi.
- LoDo & Ballpark Route: The parade winds through downtown Denver’s historic Lower Downtown district, passing near Union Station and Coors Field.
- Long-Running Tradition: Organized by an all-volunteer nonprofit committee, the parade traces its roots back to Denver’s earliest Irish community celebrations.
- Community Spectacle: Marching bands, Irish dance troupes, civic groups, and elaborate floats fill the route from start to finish.
Tips for Visitors & Trip Planning:
- Free Entry: The parade is free to watch from anywhere along the public route.
- Best Viewing Spots: Spectators start claiming curbside spots hours before the parade steps off, so arrive early — well before the official start — for a good view.
- Getting There: Streets throughout LoDo and the Ballpark district close from early morning, so park farther out and walk or rideshare in rather than driving toward the route itself.
- What to Wear: March mornings in Denver are cold, so dress in warm layers and bring something hot to drink while you wait.
- Accommodation: Downtown Denver hotels fill up quickly for the weekend, so booking well in advance is strongly recommended.
- Explore Denver: Combine the parade with more of what the Mile High City has to offer — browse top Denver tours and activities here.
