The festival symbols the end of the summer in Japan. The first day of the celebration, the 26th of August, is officially the last day of climbing the Fuji Mountain.
The Japanese carry the goddess of the Fuji mountain, that symbols the fire safety, across the streets. It is supposed to look at the fires on the way and be convinced to secure the mountain another year.
In the next day, in the Susuki festival the coming of autumn is indicated.
