Once a year on the third Wednesday in November, Beaujolais region in south Burgundy awakes. On 5 o’clock on previous Wednesday all the inhabitants as well as lot of tourists gather for wine tasting contest. The competitors have to identify 12 varieties of Beaujolais wines by tasting.

The winner gets wine barrel that is equal to his body weight. On the night between Wednesday and Thursday the region drags the attention of wine fans all over the world and the celebration of the new wine begins in Beaujeu (the town’s name).

The town’s streets become filled with celebrants that learn how to prepare wine from the local wineries’ owners. A torch parade is held and a lot of flashes lightening the sky. Due to the numerous visitors during the festival days and the high demand for accommodations it is recommended to check hotel rates, availability, and book rooms well in advance.

Exactly on midnight the BEAUJEU residents open the barrels of the new wine and declare the arrival of the Beaujolais. (The new Beaujolais has arrived!) (Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!). On the same time Beaujolais bottles are being open all over the world. It is a real fiesta for wine fans.

For accommodations, check the most recommended hotels in Beaujolais and around, most of them suggest FREE CANCELLATION option or NO PREPAYMENT NEEDED – PAY AT THE PROPERTY:

France background and overview
Although ultimately a victor in World Wars I and II, France suffered extensive losses in its empire, wealth, manpower, and rank as a dominant nation-state. Nevertheless, France today is one of the most modern countries in the world and is a leader among European nations. Since 1958, it has constructed a presidential democracy resistant to the instabilities experienced in earlier parliamentary democracies. In recent years, its reconciliation and cooperation with Germany have proved central to the economic integration of Europe, including the introduction of a common exchange currency, the euro, in January 1999. At present, France is at the forefront of efforts to develop the EU's military capabilities to supplement progress toward an EU foreign policy.
