The KlaraFestival is a distinguished international music festival that, from the historically informed practice, strives for an original alternative for the performance of classical, romantic, modern and contemporary music. The KlaraFestival also takes up its role as a guiding artistic platform using cross-genre projects as well as its own creations.
In doing so, the KlaraFestival actively gives direction to the international world of music.
KlaraFestival provides ‘added value’ thanks to its intense collaboration with important cultural institutions from Brussels as well as elsewhere in Belgium and abroad.
With its interactive link to public broadcasting and other (new) media, the KlaraFestival strives for a national and international feel and contributes to a positive conceptualisation of ‘classical music’ in our modern society.

Belgium background and overview
Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830; it was occupied by Germany during World Wars I and II. It has prospered in the past half century as a modern, technologically advanced European state and member of NATO and the EU. Tensions between the Dutch-speaking Flemings of the north and the French-speaking Walloons of the south have led in recent years to constitutional amendments granting these regions formal recognition and autonomy.
