Libertas Film Festival is held, since 2005, in Dubrovnik which is described as the pearl of the Adriatic Sea. The city which is surrounded by walls has a great historic legacy. It was established in the 7th century and due to its historic and architectonic

The festival takes place in the ancient quarter of the city inside the walls. It is focused on independent film creations which deal, mostly, with documentary issues; freedom and freethinking, messages belonging to the entire humanity regardless of where you come from, etc…

The films of six days festival are presented in the open space while the walls of the ancient city create a unique decoration to the special movies.

Croatia background and overview
The lands that today comprise Croatia were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the close of World War I. In 1918, the Croats, Serbs, and Slovenes formed a kingdom known after 1929 as Yugoslavia. Following World War II, Yugoslavia became a federal independent Communist state under the strong hand of Marshal TITO. Although Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, it took four years of sporadic, but often bitter, fighting before occupying Serb armies were mostly cleared from Croatian lands. Under UN supervision, the last Serb-held enclave in eastern Slavonia was returned to Croatia in 1998.
