Milan Oh Bej! Oh Bej! Christmas Fair

The “Oh Bej! Oh Bej!” street fair is a traditional fair that takes place every year in Milan, Italy, usually from December 7th to 10th.

The fair has been held since the 16th century, and it is named after the joyful exclamation of the Milanese people when they celebrated the feast day of their patron saint, Saint Ambrose. The fair is held in the historic district of Brera and attracts visitors from all over Italy and the world.

The streets are decorated with lights and garlands, and stalls are set up to sell food, crafts, antiques, and other traditional goods.

The fair is a great place to try some of the traditional Milanese dishes such as Panettone, Torrone, and other sweets, as well as mulled wine and other hot drinks. Visitors can also browse through the many stalls selling handmade crafts, jewelry, and other unique items.

In addition to the stalls, there are also live performances of traditional music and dance, as well as processions and parades in honor of Saint Ambrose. The fair is a festive and colorful event that captures the spirit of Milan and its people.

Italy background and overview
Italy became a nation-state in 1861 when the regional states of the peninsula, along with Sardinia and Sicily, were united under King Victor EMMANUEL II. An era of parliamentary government came to a close in the early 1920s when Benito MUSSOLINI established a Fascist dictatorship. His disastrous alliance with Nazi Germany led to Italy's defeat in World War II. A democratic republic replaced the monarchy in 1946 and economic revival followed. Italy was a charter member of NATO and the European Economic Community (EEC). It has been at the forefront of European economic and political unification, joining the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999. Persistent problems include illegal immigration, organized crime, corruption, high unemployment, sluggish economic growth, and the low incomes and technical standards of southern Italy compared with the prosperous north.
