Mildura Country Music Festival
Mildura Country Music Festival is one of Australia’s longest-running and most celebrated independent country music gatherings. Held annually during spring (late September to early October) in the sun-drenched Sunraysia region along the Murray River in Victoria, this multi-day event showcases dozens of leading Australian and international country, bush ballad, and bluegrass artists.
The festival is famous for its decentralized, community-wide setup, activating pubs, riverside parks, clubs, and historic paddle steamers across Mildura, Wentworth, and surrounding district towns.
Festival Highlights:
- Decentralized Venue Performances: Non-stop live music hosted across multiple clubs, historic pubs, and outdoor venues throughout the Mildura and Sunraysia district.
- Apex Riverbeach & Riverside Concerts: Outdoor performances and gatherings set right by the gumtrees along the scenic banks of the Murray River.
- Independent Country Music Awards: Prestigious industry showcases celebrating the finest independent Australian country vocalists, songwriters, and rising stars.
- Walk-Up Stages & Bush Ballads: Morning walk-up sessions, line dancing events, and intimate acoustic sets showcasing authentic Australian bush poetry and traditional ballads.
Tips for Visitors & Trip Planning:
- Free & Ticketed Shows: A significant portion of the daytime gigs, walk-up stages, and pub performances are free to enter, while select evening showcases and award galas require tickets.
- Getting Around: Because venues are spread across Mildura and nearby towns (such as Irymple and Wentworth), having a rental car or utilizing local festival transport makes hopping between shows easy.
- Accommodation: Spring is a popular travel season along the Murray River. Booking hotels, motels, and riverside cabins in Mildura well in advance is highly recommended.
- Explore the Murray River: Enhance your trip with historic paddle steamer cruises, orange orchard tours, or Murray-Darling river excursions—browse popular Mildura and Murray River tours here.
