The rock festival Pinkpop takes place, every year, in Landgraaf in south Netherlands. The festival that is held for more than 40 years was announced by Guinness World Records as the oldest annual festival in the world.

Its events are known as the leading musical events in the world.  The number of entrances to the festival site is restricted. Every year only 60,000 tickets are sold.

Netherlands background and overview
The Dutch United Provinces declared their independence from Spain in 1579; during the 17th century, they became a leading seafaring and commercial power, with settlements and colonies around the world.
