Ravenna Summer Festival

Ravenna is located on north central Italy, in Emilia-Romagna County. The city holds, since 1990, a music and opera festival.

The festival events take place between mid June till mid July (different dates), where the city and its suburbs, the halls and the open areas turn into one giant festive stage.

Concerts and opera plays conducted by the best conductors and played by the best bands and orchestras.

Within the years, jazz concerts, ethnic music, theater and dance shows were added to the festival events. Due to the numerous visitors during the festival days and the high demand for tickets and accommodations it is recommended to check hotel rates and book rooms & tickets well in advance.

The shows are held in halls, city squares, Basilica, antique monasteries and archeological sites that turn, during the festival days, to stages with impressive authentic decoration.

Italy background and overview
Italy became a nation-state in 1861 when the regional states of the peninsula, along with Sardinia and Sicily, were united under King Victor EMMANUEL II. An era of parliamentary government came to a close in the early 1920s when Benito MUSSOLINI established a Fascist dictatorship. His disastrous alliance with Nazi Germany led to Italy's defeat in World War II. A democratic republic replaced the monarchy in 1946 and economic revival followed. Italy was a charter member of NATO and the European Economic Community (EEC). It has been at the forefront of European economic and political unification, joining the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999. Persistent problems include illegal immigration, organized crime, corruption, high unemployment, sluggish economic growth, and the low incomes and technical standards of southern Italy compared with the prosperous north.
