Sapporo is located in Hokkaido Island the second in its size in Japan. Sapporo holds, yearly in February, since 1950 one of the most beautiful art events of the winter, the Sapporo Snow Festival. In spite of the fact that snow festivals are held in other Japanese cities, Sapporo festival events are more attractive.
It attracts more than a million visitors and the number grows with the years. Spectacular ice statues are presented in the main festival venues.
The main and biggest exhibition is located on Odori Park. Two other exhibitions can be found in Susukino and in Satorando.
Due to the numerous visitors during the festival days and the high demand for accommodations it is recommended to check hotel rates and book rooms well in advance.
During the festival’s days the city turns into a fairy tale picture with marvelous ice statues, in all shapes and sizes, all around the city.
