Thailand is known as one of the great centers of the silk industry.

Khon Kaen which is located in North East Thailand is the center of this industry. The town holds, every year, the greatest silk fair of the country. The ten days events are combined with the traditional friendship ceremonies Phuk Seow that take place in the city.

During the festival’s days a colorful street parade is held as well as folklore shows and silk production exhibitions.

Thailand background and overview
A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces.
