Suwannee Hulaween
Suwannee Hulaween launched in 2012, curated by The String Cheese Incident, and has grown into one of the country’s best-known Halloween-themed camping festivals — named among Billboard’s top Halloween parties and one of the top festivals in the US. What began as a single-weekend gathering now draws thousands of costumed fans to the banks of the Suwannee River for a four-day mix of live music, art and Halloween tradition.
Held annually over Halloween weekend in late October at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, the festival spreads across roughly 800 acres of oak hammocks draped in Spanish moss, with stages tucked among the trees and camping woven directly into the festival grounds.
Halloween Music & Camping Festival Highlights:
- A Nightly Costume Theme: each night of the festival carries its own dress-up theme, turning the grounds into a rotating series of Halloween tableaus rather than one generic costume party.
- Genre-Spanning Lineup: five-plus stages run jam, bass, electronic and bluegrass acts side by side, reflecting the festival’s roots in the String Cheese Incident’s own eclectic sound.
- Camping Built Into the Festival: tents and RVs pitch right on the grounds among the oaks, so the campground is part of the festival experience rather than a separate lot.
- Riverfront Art & Late-Night Sets: installations, glow art and late-into-the-night stages line the Suwannee River, keeping the festival’s Halloween atmosphere going well past dark.
Tips for Visitors & Trip Planning:
- Tickets: multiple ticket tiers are sold, from general admission camping passes up to premium VIP experiences with dedicated viewing and amenities.
- Camping Options: choose between general tent camping under the oak canopy or RV sites with hookups; bringing your own shade canopy, tent stakes and a rain fly is strongly advised for the Florida ground and weather.
- Getting There: the closest major airport is Jacksonville International (JAX), roughly a 90-minute drive; the festival sits just off I-75 near the I-10 interchange in Live Oak, making it an easy drive-to event for much of the Southeast.
- What to Wear: Florida afternoons in late October still run warm and humid, but nights at Suwannee River Music Park can drop into the 40s°F (single digits °C), so pack breathable daywear, a real warm layer for after dark, and comfortable footwear for the grass and dirt paths.
- Accommodation: room supply right in Live Oak is on the smaller side, so booking well in advance is strongly recommended — the results page also makes it easy to explore nearby towns on the map if you’d rather stay a bit further out.
- Explore North Central Florida: springs, river paddling and Gainesville’s own attractions are all within reach for visitors extending their trip beyond the festival — browse top Gainesville tours and activities here.
