Every year since 1893, Sweden celebrates its national holiday.

The holiday which is celebrated on June 6th indicates two important national events. The first is the crowning of the king Gustav Vasa on June 6th 1523 and the second is the day when the Swedish constitute was agreed upon on June 6th 1809. Thousands locals and tourists attend the celebrations that take place on the open Museum, Skansen (it is recommended to make a room reservation in advance).

Over the years it was known as National Flag Day but in time it became a public holiday. The kingdom family participates in the holiday’s traditional parade through the city streets toward Skansen. In the museum, flag ceremony take place as well as shows of singing, playing wind instruments bands and folklore bands.

Even though this is an event of national and local characters; its beauty and the hospitality of Stockholm’s residents make the festival an unforgettable experience for the tourists.
