Tablelands Folk Festival
Billed as the longest-running folk festival in Queensland, the Tablelands Folk Festival traces its roots back to the first “Festival of the Tableland” held in Herberton in 1981, before moving to the heritage village of Yungaburra the following year, where it has been held ever since. Held annually each October, the festival fills Yungaburra’s lakes, rainforest and heritage buildings on the Atherton Tablelands with music for a full weekend.
More than 50 local and national acts spanning folk, rock, blues, swing and jazz take to multiple stages around the village, with headline performers typically travelling in from across Australia and occasionally from as far as New Zealand.

- Best Home Base: Yungaburra itself is tiny, so many visitors base themselves in nearby Atherton, Malanda or Cairns and drive in for the day.
- Getting There: Yungaburra sits on the Atherton Tablelands roughly 1.5 hours’ drive southwest of Cairns; there’s no rail or regular bus service, so a hire car is the most practical way to reach the village.
- What to Wear: October on the Tablelands brings warm days and cool nights at altitude — pack layers, comfortable walking shoes for the grassy festival grounds, and a light rain jacket for passing showers.
