The historic center of Tel Aviv was declared officially, in 2003, by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural) as a world heritance site.
This recognition is based on the typical unique architectonic white buildings which were built in the area between 1925 and 1950 in Bauhaus style. Since then, the white city celebrates, in the last Thursday of June, the recognition in a white night festival. This festival is a sequence of events that take place all over the city.
Thousands of people, local and tourists pour into town and the demand for accommodation is higher than usual, therefore it is advisable to check hotel prices and make reservations ahead of time.
The events include a night contest and folklore race. The contest race is on 10 Km course, while the folklore race is 5 km long. In addition, lot of shows is held in dozens venues of Tel Aviv.
Events like concerts of pop music, jazz, classic music, opera, international folklore, dance and theaters shows. Guided tours are held in the unique sites, the museums are opened till late at night or even till dawn.
In this white night, Tel Aviv turns into a city of music, color and movement. Most of the events are opened, free of charge, to the public but some charge symbolic fee. This is a marvelous urbane fiesta that can’t be missed.
