The dancing egg (L’Ou Com Balla) events started in 1637. They preserve the local traditional catholic customs of the Corpus Christi fiestas.
In the holiday days, egg shells are put on the water streams of the fountains of the city.
The fountains are decorated with flowers and the egg shells are flying over the water for the great joy of the visitors.
The main celebrations take place in Barcelona’s cathedral, in Ateneu Barcelonès, in Casa de l’Ardiaca, in the Gothic quarter and other places over the city.
In the early evening of the first day of Corpus Christi, a traditional parade with giants and big-headed carnival figures, music and dance is held. The parade starts at the cathedral square and moves through the city’s main streets.
