The Lord Mayor’s Show started in 1215 and since preserves tradition of 800 years.  The event started when King John gave the citizens the rights to elect the Mayor. The elected person had to present the confirmation of his election and swear fealty to the Crown this was the condition for the election’s right.

To do so, he had to travel to Westminster and to pledge his allegiance. Since then, every year, a traditional parade is held in mid November. The mayor drives a carriage in front of the parade. About 6000 people, more than 200 horses and about 250 stage shows carried on various vehicles participate in the event.

A lot of local and foreign bands join the parade. The magnificent day ends with fireworks show that is held on the Thames riverbank.
