Phoenix St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Faire
Running since 1984, the Phoenix St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Faire is Arizona’s largest celebration of Irish heritage, organized to preserve and share Irish culture with the wider community. What started as a modest downtown march has grown into a full day of festivities drawing thousands of spectators and participants from across the Valley.
Held annually each March in Downtown Phoenix, the parade heads south along 3rd Street before the celebration continues at Margaret T. Hance Park, home to the city’s Irish Cultural Center. The park setting gives the Faire room to spread out across multiple music stages, food vendors, and cultural exhibits for the rest of the day.
Parade & Faire Highlights:
- Downtown Parade Route: Marching bands, Irish step dancers, bagpipers, floats, and dignitaries process south through Downtown Phoenix’s city streets.
- Three Stages of Music: The post-parade Faire at Hance Park features three stages of live Irish music, step dancing performances, and bagpipe bands running throughout the day.
- Irish Cultural Center Exhibits: Visitors can tour the McClelland Library’s commemorative exhibitions and connect with local Irish clubs and genealogy resources on-site.
- Family & Community Zone: A dedicated children’s area, Irish crafts, and merchandise stalls round out the Faire alongside food and beverage vendors.
Tips for Visitors & Trip Planning:
- Free Entry: Both the parade and the Faire at Hance Park are free to attend.
- Best Viewing Spots: Arrive early along 3rd Street to claim a curbside spot, and bring your own chairs since seating isn’t provided.
- Getting There: Downtown Phoenix streets close along the route on parade morning, so plan to walk in from nearby parking or transit rather than driving directly to Hance Park.
- What to Wear: March in Phoenix is typically warm and sunny, so wear green, sun protection, and comfortable shoes for a day spent mostly outdoors.
- Accommodation: Downtown Phoenix hotels get busy for the weekend, so booking well in advance is strongly recommended.
- Explore Phoenix: Make a longer trip of it in the Valley of the Sun — browse top Phoenix tours and activities here.
