Alcoy is located in south east Spain. It holds. Like many other town in Spain, Three Kings Parade or in another name “The three wise guys / Amgushs” (Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos).
Alcoy’s parades are known as the oldest religious parades in Spain. The parades started in 1885 and even nowadays they are continues fiestas that create a religious excitement which is not less than the excitement of Christmas.
The events are held, every year, from the Sunday before Epiphany until the holiday which is celebrated on January 6th. The first parade is “les Pastoretes” (the little shepherds).
This is a children parade which takes place on Sunday. The children, dressed with shepherd cloths, march and donate gifts to a statue that look like new baby Jesus. The second parade, the three kings’ parade, is held on January 5th evening.
It reaches it climax when the three kings enter the city riding on camels loaded with gifts.
The parade wanders on the main streets of the city accompanied by “Antorcheros” (torch bearers) that light its way in the dark.
Christmas carols are heard all around and in every corner of the city, children get presents.
