WA Environment Festival

The WA Environment Festival, also known as the Naragebup Festival, is a long-running community celebration of nature and sustainability hosted by the Naragebup Rockingham Regional Environment Centre. Set on the centre’s 1.7-hectare grounds beside Lake Richmond, the festival brings together local wildlife carers, environmental groups and the community for a hands-on day of learning about Western Australia’s native animals and landscapes.

Held annually each October, the festival turns the centre’s natural amphitheatre and grounds into a lively open day, with reptile and marine life displays, rescue animals and a program built around education, conservation and family fun.

Festival Highlights:

• Native Wildlife Encounters: Get up close with reptiles, birds of prey and rescued animals cared for by the centre and visiting wildlife rescue groups.
• Marine Turtle Conservation: Learn about the centre’s work rehabilitating critically endangered loggerhead turtles and other marine life.
• Market Stalls & Sustainability Info: Browse environmental and community stalls covering everything from native gardening to sustainable living.
• Family Entertainment: Face painting, a sausage sizzle, raffles and live entertainment keep kids and adults busy throughout the day.

• Entry: Admission is by gold coin donation, with cash handy for stalls, food and raffle tickets on the day.
• Venue Layout: The festival is centred on the environment centre’s grounds opposite Lake Richmond, with activities spread across the site’s gardens and natural amphitheatre.
• Getting There: Rockingham is about 45 minutes south of Perth by car, with regional bus services also connecting to the town centre.
• What to Wear: Sun-safe clothing, a hat and comfortable shoes are recommended for a day spent mostly outdoors.
