Borobudur temple in Java Indonesia, which is known as the biggest Buddhist temple in the world was recognized by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, as a World Heritage Site.

Every year, in the first full moon evening of May, thousand of Buddhist monks celebrate in the antique, unique ten thousands year’s old temple, the birth, the illumination and the death of Buddha.

At the event’s evening, the locals and tourist visitors are exposed to a marvelous view. The full moon lights a mass of monks wearing orange gowns march with candles and flowers in their hands. The pilgrim monks, march in the darkness, in a long convoy from the village Mendut toward the temple in order to pray and lay an offering to Buddha who sit in the peak of the antique temple.

Indonesia background and overview
The Dutch began to colonize Indonesia in the early 17th century; the islands were occupied by Japan from 1942 to 1945.
